About Elements Private Golf Reserve
There are many non residential, second home golf estates in South Africa and very few can match Elements Private Golf Reserve.
A stunning, unique golf estate on 495 hectares of property located only two hours drive from OR Tambo International airport. In the magnificent Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province. The setting for Elements Private Golf Reserve is one of the biggest factors that count in its favour.
The surrounding bushveld terrain varies between natural hillsides and open plains, with mountain views and perennial streams. The golf course meanders through a fertile valley of indigenous vegetation and artful landscaping.
The Clubhouse is located on a rise overlooking the golf course from which 11 holes can be seen and offers an unsurpassed view of the course and surrounding landscape. The reception, administrative offices, kids play ground, bar, restaurant and main kitchen areas is located on the upper level. The lower floor houses the locker rooms, half way house, golf shop, conference room and covered patio.
A small portion of the restaurant has been cordoned off to create a kids play area. This has become a popular addition to keep the kids occupied while mom and dad are enjoying drinks in the bar or a meal in the restaurant. It has play tables, ball games and even a full size pool table for the older kids and young adults.
In addition to golf and excellent practice facilities, the estate offers mountain bike trails, tennis courts, hiking, game viewing, bird watching, swimming, conferencing, and a comprehensive food and beverage offering in the clubhouse. Limpopo golf at its finest.
The Course - Elements Private Golf Reserve
The golf course is an unsurpassed Peter Matkovich design. Elements Private Golf Reserve has been rated in the Top 30 Golf Courses of South Africa for the last 10 years.
The bushveld course at Elements Private Golf Reserve has been blessed with good rainfall the last two years, following a lengthy drought in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, and has returned to the excellent conditioning which saw it ranked among the country’s Top 10 courses when it first opened for play.
Visitors are always taken by surprise at the natural beauty and magnificence of this modern Peter Matkovich layout, set in a tranquil bushveld location with a diverse range of wildlife roaming the property. This sprawling championship layout is not what you would expect in a remote second-home residential golf estate, certainly not one with slick bent grass greens the equal of courses in Gauteng.
Matkovich loves the bushveld, and camping on site during the construction period fed his creative thinking in the design of some interesting and original looking holes. The opening par 4 is one of them. The uphill fairway appears to disappear into the bush, but once there you see a narrow gap through the trees leading to the green. Walking through that shady glade is the entrance to a unique golfing environment. The terrain is rugged and rocky, the holes running between natural hillsides in a valley of indigenous trees, so there are subtle changes in elevation.
Water in this dry area is precious, and in 2017 the Elements Body Corporate concluded arrangements with neighbouring properties to ensure they have enough water to irrigate the fairways in winter. The large dam around the adjoining ninth and 18th greens, a feature of both closing holes, has water in it more frequently after being dry for years. Elements Body Corporate acquired the clubhouse and commercial rights from the previous hotel group operator.
Taking in all the natural surroundings, this is not only a game of golf but a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The golf course is just the excuse needed to get out there and enjoy it.
“Seamless blends of nature’s random beauty, and man’s orderly designs, are serene reflections of the sensitivity to local environments”, comments Matkovich. With this stunning golf course as a feature Elements Private Golf Reserve will surely become one of South Africa’s leading luxury member golf clubs.
Activities
Mountain Biking
The estate offers a network of handmade trails within the 495 hectare nature reserve which vary in degrees of difficulty. The trails range from 5.2km Kids/Family, 7.3km Beginner, 12.4km Advanced and a 20.4km Technical.
Some are comfortable rides on the gravel roads but others, like the Advanced and Technical, include challenging single-tracks, loose surfaces, big drops and more demanding terrain.
The Kids/Family track has no technical aspects and is perfectly suited for a fun biking outing with bushveld and golf course views. For the Advanced and Technical tracks, you will need to be a bit more technically skilled to cope with the natural obstacles.
The trails provide wonderful scenery of the Waterberg bushveld as well as the resident Fauna and Flora. Mountain biking doesn’t come better than this.
Restaurant
The bar and restaurant is one large open function area with sliding windows opening up magnificent views of the golf course. The fully stocked bar is a comfortable venue with a large counter and several bar tables and chairs for guests to relax, enjoy a drink and admire views of the golf course.
There is a fire place located in the middle of the restaurant which is well used during the chilly winter months. All meals are prepared in the main kitchen adjoining the restaurant. The restaurant operates every day of the week serving breakfast, snacks and lunch every day. It is not operational for dinner other than by prearrangement for small or large groups. Large events can be accommodated comfortably.
By design the menu is uncomplicated and well priced providing specifically for the needs of golfers and other visitors. The lunch menu includes typical dishes such as steak, lamb chops, chicken, fish and burgers with a selection of chips and salads. The Elements breakfast is a full English style breakfast serving which should not be missed. The quality and presentation of the meals served is always outstanding.
